Today, local governments have access to an ever-increasing number of data sources: transit ticketing systems, traffic counts, bicycles, pedestrians, FCD data, cellular data, public data, and more…
But each one tells only part of the story.
One source may be very spatially precise but not very representative.
Another may measure volumes without identifying the mode of transportation.
A third may be very comprehensive for a given network but describe only a portion of the trips.
The real challenge, therefore, is no longer simply to collect more data.
The question is how to combine them and leverage their complementary strengths to obtain knowledge that is reliable enough to inform a decision.
